Type Locality and Naming

Along the Shaly stream, southern slope of the Dzhalpak Mountains, N. Nuratau ridge. A.I. Kim, N.M. Larin, 1966 (368, pp.92-93). Lower beds in the Chaltash Fm

Synonym: Shalyn Layers, Шалынские сл., Shaly Beds


Lithology and Thickness

Brecciated rocks, which gradually overlap with fine- and medium-grained sandstones with numerous organic detritus. Upper part of the layer - rhythmic interbedding of limestone conglomerate-breccias, organogenic-clastic limestones, and ferruginous-carbonate rocks. Thickness 110-160m.

Lower contact

Shalyn Beds Fm lie on Abartkan Beds Fm, stratigraphic contacts are conformable.

Upper contact

They are overlain by Chashmazrak Beds Fm, stratigraphic contacts are conformable.

Contains stromatoporoids - Ecclimadictyon quasifastigiatum Bogojavl.; tabulates Squameofavosites isfaraensis Chekh., Emmonsiella ex gr. saaminica (Chekh.); rugosans Zelophyllum conicum Bulw., Mukophyllum crateroides Ether., Kodonophyllum truncatum (Linn.); brachiopods - Atrypoidea linguata columbella Barr., Atrypopsis megaerella (Plod.), Gypidula incipiens Barr., Nikiforovaena lynxoides (Nal.), N. isfarensis (Nikif.), N. favositicus Nikif., Alaskospira dunbariK. et Ams.; conodonts - Ozarcodina crispa (Wall.).
